Stuff-I-Missed Sludgecakes

Others have talking points, quick hits, or gleanettes. Nor’Towners are stuck with Sludge Cakes!

I ddn’t make it to the Wednesday meetings of the North Las Vegas City Council, so we’ll have to rely on the Main Stream Media (MSM) to fill in the gaps:

  • Council voted for an audit of the “More Cops” account to see if funds for hiring new police went to other purposes. (RJ)
  • Council also placed a cap on the amount of money that can go into the general fund from the water fund. (RJ) Apparently the high point of that discussion was the mayor voting for something she was against. Now, as I understand representative government, an elected official might do that if she thought a majority of her constituents would be in favor of the measure. However, it doesn’t seem justified if the idea is simply to placate other members of the council. They each represent their wards, but she’s the only one up there who represents the whole city. If she really thought those caps were a bad idea for the city, she should have voted against and not simply followed the “direction council was going.” There are five seats on council last time I counted, not four.
  • Yay! The shooting park opens this weekend! No news yet if Councilman Tom Collins will be taking potshots at the U-hauls of disgruntled North Valley residents headed out of state looking for jobs (RJ) or if State Senator John Lee will be handing out coupons good for getting out of jail free to Nor’Town gun runners or if the NRA will have Obama targets set up. Still, good family fun for all, no doubt. It’ll help everybody practice up for all the holiday stress coming our way next week when we’ll have the urge to demonstrate what our gun collections can do to the relatives.
  • Now, if you’re like me, you’re all teary-eyed to see Sharon Powers leaving the Nor’Townie businessfolk consortium. Who can forget her forward-looking stance on bear-poppy preservation? “Where does it stop? We can have a great conservation area where all
this land is protected, but if it doesn’t bring jobs and commerce into
an area, what good does it do?” (NorTown) Now that unbridled growth has been shown to be a complete bust, everybody’s looking at the tourist trade the proposed National Monument could bring in to save whatever is left of the local business consortium. Shh. I can hear the bear-poppies on the wind whispering “I told you so, Sharron!”
