NLV Housing Authority: The Ghosts of Christmas Past…

Like the ghost of Christmas Past, the North Las Vegas Housing Authority keeps coming back to haunt us.

What’s keeping the failed agency from breathing it’s last is a mountain of debt, about $3.2 million from messed up investments and misuse of Federal Funds. (RJ).

Nor’Town may end up having to pay off that debt. Perhaps they should increase the waste water fee to do so. That way no one will notice for five to ten years….

Don’t miss the lovely, ever so enlightening comments to the RJ story. Some there wish to blame the race of the board leadership for the muckup, but that seems awfully unfair to the white majority on the old board, and the white manager/scapegoat that took the blame, don’t it? Surely the claim isn’t that they screwed up because they were white, not with plenty of incompetence to go around?

Thank you for reminding us of this very important issue in North Las Vegas. I was surprised to see that Lynette Curtis at the RJ chose to write about it. Perhaps it was a special request from Mayor Buck as a warning shot to certain members of the Council that they had better not cross her. I completely agree with your assessment – members of the Housing Board are ultimately responsible for mismanagement at the Housing Authority and MUST be held accountable. This includes Councilman Robinson, who served as chairman of the Board, and his sidekick, Robert Eliason. If they didn’t know what was going on, they should have. Ignorance (by voters) may get you elected, but ignorance of one’s official duties is a disgrace. Robinson will be finished in a year; Eliason deserves to be recalled and replaced by someone who has a spine and a functioning brain.
