A Nor'Town Tree
City Council will be holding court in a special session mostly about Parks and Recreation related matters at 4:30 pm, Weds. Jan. 20, in City Hall, still at Civic Center Drive, North Las Vegas, Nevada. Apparently the protocol for naming parks and buildings is in need of an upgrade, as is the policy for donations and building cell-towers in parks.
Hope the proposal isn’t to rip all the biological trees out of the regional park and then replace them with the type pictured at right.
In the regular meeting at 6pm, Council will get handed an audit of city finances. That audit is 194 pages of actuarial fun, which is to say it really isn’t. You’ll read about how the city’s bond rating has been down-graded from AA to AA-, and how a whole bunch of HUD money is coming to the rescue in dire financial times.
Just one thing, that HUD money isn’t coming, mainly because the city and its neighbors can’t seem to find anything to spend it on. (RJ) So, I expect to see a couple of accountants with erasers at the meeting.
The report contains a copy of a certificate the City won for financial reporting, which, given all the feigned surprise so evident in council lately about not being fully informed about the budget, makes me wonder what criteria are used for handing out those awards. Maybe they count pages or award extra points for colorful graphics.
Item #11 looks interesting. The Firefighter’s union has apparently agreed to allow one less firefighter per truck and per air resource unit in order to cut down on overtime. Hope the guy left out isn’t the one who’s supposed to save me if and/or when my house burns down.
Also up is the ordnance forbidding the sale of animals on public streets or buildings. I’m guessing that the rule won’t apply to lawyer-lobbyists in city hall, though.
