This Weds, May 5th, City Council will hold another special session at 4:30pm. Topics include (1) possible changes to how, or better, if, Code Enforcement will continue, or better, ever begin, in Nor’Town and (2) possible approval of the health plan for any remaining city employees. Rumors that the city will be adopting Senate candidate Sue Lowden’s “Chicken for A Doctor” plan could not be confirmed.
During the regular meeting at 6pm. Councilfolk will be discussing stuff like “fee enhancements,” which, for us ordinary mortals means “fee hikes” for various kinds of business licenses. Can’t wait to hear what the NLV Chamber of Commerce has to say about those.
And, believe it or not, it looks like there will be state funds to fix that nasty jog on Simmons between Lone Mountain and Craig. Why, I’ve been planning to die in a car crash at that location for years now.
Also, they’ll be discussing building a beach in the new Regional Park. It will give laid off city employees a lovely spot to enjoy their unemployment while contemplating how do deal with the foreclosure. The rest of us doing the same will be sure to welcome them.
[UPDATE: Actually, what Council will be considering is to replace the planned beach with a "water spray park." The swim beach is being postponed until the next housing bubble:
Staff has identified a significant cost savings in the Phase 2 Construction by revising the pool area in park element # 5, and constructing a large Water Spray Park.
By revising the Swim Beach to a (large) Water Spray Park, the project would save approximately $1,000,000 just in construction, and an annual cost savings to the General Fund for maintenance, operations and staffing of approximately $1,200,000.
The Water Spray Park would also allow the City to extend the Swim Beach season to nine-month, versus three-month, traditional swim pool season.
The City is currently facing some challenging economic times that project into 2012, when Craig Ranch Regional Park is scheduled to open (April 2012). Staff recommends changing the design of the Swim Beach area into a Water Spray Park.
The large Water Spray Park is consistent with the Craig Ranch Regional Park Master Plan of an “Outdoor Aquatics Complex” and the Swim Beach or Pool would be included in future phases when funds become available to design, and construct an Aquatics Building for Craig Ranch. ]
