Be advised that it would be in bad taste to ask the emergency workers if they expect to receive a pink slip soon.

Your last statement on this post is off-base. Somehow, the fire fighter’s union was able to negotiate with the city that there would be no layoffs in this next fiscal year (2010-11). All this while city management is gearing up for removing another swath of Teamsters from their ranks. I heard that of the 200+ positions eliminated in the last layoffs, more than 180 of them were dues paying Teamster members? Sounds kind of targeted to me!
from what I remember reading the firefighters gave up cost of living raises and merit increases and personnel positions to save the layoffs of their own people. I also remember reading in that article about the firefighter concessions Councilman Cherchio specifically went out of his way to thank the Police Officers for being the ones who really stepped up to help the city. Totally rude comment when the article had nothing to do with Police Officers. On that note one of my neighbors who is a North Las Vegas Police Officer said they just got a 4% cost of living raise. Councilman Cherchio appears to have a favorite department and it does sound like other groups are being targeted. I would like to see Cherchio respond with a link to the RJ or Sun detailing what his favorite department has given up recently because I have not seen any articles lately besides what the Teamsters and Firefighters have given up
I read your above comment and concern, but looking at the article you reference I suggest you re-read it since that was never said by anyone.
I guess I am not surprised you do not remember your quote from the article talking about the insurance changes and the agreement with the firefighters. Nor am I surprised you did not comment how this poor cash strapped city can give the police department their cost of living raises when other departments have to give them up. Whats fair for one is fair for all.
I have to agree with North Town Citizen. He is right, that Richard thanked the Police for there hard work not fighting the City with the changes to health care benefits. The firefighters also agreed to the changes. The firefighter where the only union to not get raises and the only ones to give three rounds of concessions. Mr. Cherchio has made it very clear where he stands with public safety. Remember when he and Anita Wood said there where no sacred cows. What happened? Looks like the firefighters took it pretty hard, and the cops didn’t. Next year should be interesting. Any one wondering why Richard Cherchio can’t win an election?
